What's At Stake -
The passage of Proposal 2 enshrined discrimination
against LGBT citizens in Michigan's state constitution
by prohibiting marriage equality.
The architects of Proposal 2 now argue that
the Proposal also forbids employers from offering
Domestic Partner Benefits to unmarried couples,
a group that includes all LGBT couples.
In a landmark case filed by the ACLU of Michigan,
National Pride at Work is asking the court to
declare that Proposal 2 does NOT prohibit Domestic
Partner Benefits.
On Tuesday, August 16, Judge Joyce Draganchuk
will hear arguments in the case at the County
Courthouse in Lansing.
Join us promptly at 2:00 pm on Tuesday to demonstrate
your solidarity with the plaintiffs whose families
are threatened by the loss of benefits.
Plaintiffs whose family security is at stake
will address the rally, as well as employers
who are fighting for the right to continue offering
benefits.
You're welcome to enter the courtroom to listen
to the arguments, which begin at 3:00, or remain
outside the courthouse in a demonstration of
solidarity.
Let's show the press, the public, and our legislators
that we will strongly resist any further attempts
to marginalize us.
Triangle Foundation, Michigan Equality and Eastern
Michigan University's LGBT Resource Center join
with a number of other organizations in sponsoring
the rally. |
